Does anyone know where I can find good information about the issues of
providing Word files in the correct format for printers to reproduce.

I'm talking about the printers who use docutechs and presses as opposed
to the HP printer on your network.

I want to research the kind of output that is optimal for a printer,
which I expect to include extensive discussion of postscript files,
Adobe Acrobat, etc.

I'm also interested in pushing the boundaries of single color printing
with Word. In other words, are there ways to separate colors during the
output process, etc.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

In general printers do not like getting documents in Word files. Publisher
or Acrobat are preferred.

Dwayne,
There's an excellent NG's where ptinters of this sort
gather.
"comp.publish.prepress" they are most cordial and helpful to newcomers.
The jargon is quite technical, however they will recognize a newcomer by the
question posed.
I suggest you monitor for a day or two and then determine an appropiate
subject line and provide as much detail as possible in your request.

BTW, I seem to recall that commercial printers have some stringent standards
for PDF's as well.

Some example links below. These links are very long and may be broken
requiring ccopying and pasting.
