I have a client at a remote site wanting to access the
server via RDP, but an error msg pops up when they try to
connect stating that there is a Protocol Error.

Didn't happen before.

What OS are you running on the TS?
And on the client?
Is there anything in the EventLog on the TS?
What is the *exact* text of the error message?

With so little information, it could be a number of things, but
have a look if any of these articles fit your situation:

Because of a Protocol Error

Thanks for replying
The OS of the server is Windows 2000 Server
the OS of the client is Win XP Pro
I looked in the Eventlog and it doesn't have anything re:
th issue
the error msg is: Because of a protocol error, this
session will be disconnected, Please try connecting to the
remote computer again. or Contact your System Admin.

The user had previously accessed TClient via Modem Dial-up
and there was no problem. Then we upgraded that site with
DSL. I was able to access TClient the first time. Then I
logged off and went to log back on and then that msg re:
Protocol Error just won't go away.
Both the svr and client have to up to date service packs
and windows updates. I have a user at another site that
has Win 98 and they have the same error msg and then the
next day the msg didn't appear and hasn't come back.
the licensing is all up to date and i have users at
another site that have also not experienced this issue,
and there ar win 98 and XP machines there.

The user that is experiening this issue logs on to the
local machine (xp) and then tries to connect via RDP.
There is also a Telnet program that they use and that is
ok.

Mmmm, the fact that the first connection is OK, but the second and
subsequent connections are refused sounds like it could be a black
hole router problem.
Could you perform the checks in this article::
