XP Pro on peer LAN can surf web but can't "see" any other
PC's on LAN. Attempt to browse the workgroup results in
an error message; suggests authorization problems.
Tried swapping NIC - no help.
Permissions look good. Observed account is an
administrator.

PC has shares to offer the LAN.
PC can be "seen" by other PCs but not browsed.
PC cannot ping its own IP address. Cannot ping any other
PC on the LAN but can ping web sites and broadband
gateway. Internet access looks nominal. Surf, download --
all is well.

PC has a printer to share and the other PCs cannot "see"
it to share.

Real puzzler. I've rounded up all the "usual suspects"
and no joy.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Thanks,
Wm

When a PC can't ping its own IP address, the most likely problem is an
improperly configured firewall program. Un-install all firewalls
(Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm, etc). Don't just disable them.
Un-install them. Then go to Start | Run | Msconfig | Startup and
disable any remnants of the firewalls.
