I am new to the wireless world and I don't know if I can get advice on this
NG but I am concerned about hackers and hijackers being able to access my
computer. I am using a Airlink 101 Super G Series on a DSL line. Can anyone
offer some help. Encryption or ?

Presumably, a manual was supplied with your wireless hardware.. now may be a
good time to take a look at it..

I guess the NEW means nothing to the usual snobs . The manual didn't really
offer advice that a novice (admittedly so) can follow, so I turned to the
NGs which used to be a place where advice was freely given. Now thte NGs for
thte most part are filled with snobs and smartasses that are here only to
pad their egos and blow smoke each others asses.
Never again...

I have a D-Link wireless card.. there are other types, and not surprisingly,
all have their nuances.. the best place to look for info regarding your card
is either the manual or a webpage.. you can do a search on your wireless
card as easily as I or anybody else here can.. you will get the info way
faster if you do it yourself..

I fail to see in what capacity that I am being a 'smartass' by telling you
to look to the manual..

Although I backed up Mike's good advice with regard to reading the manual
(which, admittedly, does not always contain all the information one would
need), I DID provide links to the information that you requested. These
links, as proclaimed by others, are readily available through a quick search
with Google. Yes, it requires a little reading.
Just so you know, I don't have enough 'ego' to pad and I think your
generalization of the people in the NG in unfair and unfounded. Perhaps you
should read some of the other threads and find out how many people are being
helped before you put everyone in the same "smartass box." The fact remains
that the manual, the manufacturer and Google (mostly, in that order) are
your best bet to resolve an issue.....then, if that fails, you are armed
with the information that can be presented to the NG that will usually
result in a resolution. Please note that none of the above is intended to
be offensive or degrade and is presented in hopes that you will continue to
use the NG for further information and guidance, additionally, it would be
nice if you would post your resolution for the benefit of others.
Heirloom, old and closer to the 'dumbass' end of the
scale

My apologies to all concerned. I couldn't get useful information from the
manaul given and I admittedly chose the easy way out and had hoped for help
from the NG's and I will try the links given.

I had issues with my wireless card too.. I had looked at the manual but not
as closely as maybe I should have.. info on the D-Link website made me look
back at the manual, and second time around, it became much clearer..

As said, they all have their nuances.. good luck with yours
