I would like to protect my presenation so that others cannot edit or copy
slides. I don't mind if they want to rearrange slides - saving the
presentation as "pps" does not allow others to go in to PowerPoint and look
at the slides in sorter view - any ideas?

I tried the method of saving presentation as slide show (pps) and then
opening new presentation and inserting as object etc...but it only inserted
the first slide of the presentation - am I missing a step?

Thanks!

Because of the way that trick works, I think that it works only if the
embedded presentation has its own built-in navigation and is set to Kiosk.
I haven't made use of the method myself. Perhaps Glenna will see this and
be able to confirm this. Remember, this is a devious trick and not
something that was designed into PowerPoint, so some experimentation or
modification to your presentation may be needed.

What happens when you doubleclick the "first slide" during a slide show?

You'll only see the first slide in edit mode.

I just tested it, and a press of the left arrow, a space, or Page Down will
exit the presentation I used in the test (Presented by Speaker). However, a
mouse click anywhere on the slide will advance it to the next slide of the
embedded presentation. Also, the right click works to view the pop-up menu
if it hasn't been disabled. It looks like the safest approach would be to
provide the navigation links and set it as Kiosk. That would prevent the
user from accidentally exiting prematurely, and thinking there is only one
slide.
