I've just produced a presentation in PowerPoint 97, is there any way I can
allow others to view the presentatiuon, but not be able to make changes to it?

First, save your presentation as a PowerPoint Show (or change the .ppt to
..pps). Then create a new presentation. In this new presentation go to Insert
Object, then select Create From File (don't check the Link box).

Once your object is in the new slide, resize it to fit the slide. Save the
new file as a PowerPoint Show (pps)

Not really. PPT 97, nor to my knowledge any of the later versions, does not
have an encryption password to prevent changes. The only thing that you can
really do is to save it as a PPT SHOW (extension .pps) and then write
protect the file. Anyone savvy enough will just remove the write protect on
the file and then change the extension back to PPT. You can, of course
print the PPT file to a PDF file and change the resulting PDF file to a
password protected, read only, and to start the file with one screen at a
time in Adobe Acrobat full version.

Many thanks Sandy

That'll slow down many PPT users, but do understand that it's not a secure
solution.

It's very easy to pop out your own fully editable copy of the embedded PPT/PPS
w/o having to resort to anything but the normal features PPT offers.
