I was thinking of upgrading to office 2002 solely to get password protection
on powerpoint files. Just looking for some advice here.

Does anyone know how good the protection is? Does it prevent people from
printing the presentation?

Maybe one of those pptools or ALADAT utilities is better.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

Keep in mind that if you password protect a file, it'll be unopenable by anyone
with PPT 2000 or earlier, and by anyone with any Mac version of PPT. If that's
not acceptable, then PPT's protection won't meet your needs.

I'll let somebody who's used it answer the printing question.

PPTools Protect won't prevent anyone from printing the presentation; it just
makes it more difficult for others to edit/steal your data.

I'd check with Aladat but you might also look up Shyam Pillai's SecurePack at
http://www.mvps.org/skp/

It's not hard or expensive to acquire a tool that cracks protected files.
Most regular users won't ever have a clue about such things, but the devoted
won't have any problem with them.
