Does anyone know of a way to manage the use of USB memory keys in XPe.

This is a hard-drive based system with a GUI running XPe. We plan on
including a USB port mainly to download logs off the machine, but also
possibly for application updates. The system is not networked.

With the current configuration one can read/write information to/from
the memory key directly as soon as it is inserted. Access to the box
is via password protected login.

My main concern is that this is a vulnerable place where malware could
be introduced. Is anyone aware of any security software that would
help in preventing this.

Thanks
Albert

Albert,

There is a bunch of software available on the market that will allow you to "secure" your device based on XP/XPe. You will probably
want to evaluate it to choose the one that meets your needs.

However, if you are not afraid that users will copy and run programs off Usb keys, you can just turn off Autoplay for Usb Mass
Storage devices. Then you will be sure no software is run automatically from "unknown" Usb key.
Also, you can secure the device more by locking it out if a Usb attach event happened. basically only authorized users will be able
to "copy" files from USb keys then.

Hi,
we use Device Lock to prevent user from attaching a USB keyboard.
