I have this very irritating bug that I seem to be able to
recreate on more than one computer and within Win2k and XP
and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
Thru a bunch of troubleshooting, I figured out how to get
rid of it temporarily in Win2k but am not able to do the
same thing in XP (i reverted to win2k to get around it).
At my work place, I am consistently using HTTPS pages (i
don't know much about this stuff), and I started having
problems when opening up pages that rather than loading
into the current page, would pop up into it's own page,
that it would ask me to login again. Once I log in, it
takes me to the beginning ... and thus I've begun the
infinate loop of *grrr*.
I do not know exactly what causes it, I presume some sites
I go to or combination of sites (?) ... but the fix within
win2k is to delete the Protected Storage System Provider
key and then go and clear out saved passwords/forms (even
tho' i have that option turned off, deleting the key on
it's own does not work). After that, the page (which i
can't put here for people to play with, as it's at work)
loads again.
I went thru the pages I normally access when waiting for
builds or things to load, trying to recreate the bug ...
it would show up eventually but never at the same point
as before.
Today, I accessed only two web pages, one work related and
one not and the bug still showed up.
I went from win2k to xp with the hopes the bug would stay
away, but the bug showed up again, and the steps I took in
2k did not help. I started messing w/my home computer,
which runs xp and realized it has it, I just never went to
sites or used parts of sites where it mattered. At home,
I notice it when I access my bank accounts and tell it to
show print friendly page. (shrug)
My work has given me two additional computers to try and
recreate the bug on which I will be doing in awhile.
Before I do that, any ideas as to what is causing this,
what to look for, what to note ... etc ... would be
MASSIVELY appriciated. I'm going insane!! I can't do my
job even close to efficiently.
The pages I access:
www.southbayriders.com
www.socalsvriders.com
www.livejournal.com
webmail.montegreene.com (this is a new one which i
accessed today but never prior and is the only one i
accessed besides the following
https://mail.e2open.com/exchange (work email)
..... That's about it.
Thanks.
---- Update
I removed the corrupted key, and used the system only
accessing web outlook and via the vpn, access the intranet
at my work (i reinstalled my os to get rid of the bug from
xp so i have not joined the domain at work yet since i'm
working at home and have to log in everytime i access the
intranet) ... i really feel that this bug is coming up
when I have to log in. Is it possible there's something
in the webpages set up by my work that could trigger
this? My problem is that AFAIK no one else there has the
bug ... yet I seem capable of recreating it with ease. I
did not remove temp inet files when I removed the bug, and
don't know enough about that to know if something from
that could create the bug?
I really need help, I've been banging my head against this
for over 2 months.
