Is there any way to protect my desktop shortcut from being renamed, moved or
deleted if the windows user type is limited?

Put it in c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop. Then a limited user
can't delete or rename it.

Users can move whatever they like, though. I would stick with autoarrange.

Yes, but if you have XP pro you can do this through the GPO policy.
Open run and type in:
gpedit.msc click [OK] and under the Administrator Templates assign
whichever action/GPO you want for users on the machine.
If you cann't do that please let us know with more info about your machine
and the environement where the machine reside!

Minor correction: it's Administrative Templates, and unless you're on a
domain, you have to be very careful using gpedit in XP. You can very easily
paint yourself into a corner. And AFAIK there's no GPO that controls what
users can do on *their* desktops to this degree.

Your desktop shortcut won't be available in other accounts. They will
logging in under a different account than yours. Stop sharing your
account.
