<snip>....

TrueCrypt-Gold is "donation-software".

If you like the TrueCrypt-Gold software and you find it useful for whatever
the purpose, after one week of use you must make a donation of ONLY US$3
to our E-Gold account.
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, you must deinstall and destroy all copies of the
Software.

Hi Art, I realize that's not your definition above but comes from the
site. My own definition of that type is "shareware". Here the author is
giving a mandate that you *must* donate. It's semantics...*must* donate
is the same as *must* pay to my way of thinking. Definatley not
"donation-ware" as I know it. ;)

I'm inclined to agree. There's no way in hell this is "donationware" with
the disclaimer thats been quoted.

And despite the euphemistic use of the word "donation", since the fee
is not optional, the software is actually shareware.

I googled this after reading this thread. V2.0 and now 2.1. No mention
in the license of any donation needed. This gold version omits parts
of the license and appears to be v2.0 according to the readme.

The main page says this:

Pay Now with e-gold..."

Seems pretty clear cut to me.

I use TrueCrypt 1.0, which is FREE software, so thought I'd check this
out. It seems the so-called Gold version is a ripped-off copy from
someone trying to make a fast buck (with a few changed logos etc). The
funny thing is that an important file is missing - meaning that it
doesn't even work!

Try a look at this site. It has been updated for the new v2.1. "The
only free open-source on-the-fly encryption software that fully
supports Windows XP".
