Hello,
I use Excel 2002 and am not sure how to protect different cells in a
worksheet.
I do construction estimating and have many worksheets with formulas in
them and would like to protect them once I get them working properly.

Can someone please tell me how to do this properly.

Thanks so much

Each cell can be locked or unlocked. But the "lockedness" of a cell doesn't
mean much until/unless the worksheet is protected.

Unless you've done something weird, each cell will be locked (it's the usual
default behavior).

So you can select your input cells (click on the first and ctrl-click on
subsequent).
Then Format|cells|Protection Tab|uncheck Locked.

These unlocked cells will be the cells where the user can change values.

But now you'll want to protect the sheet.
Tools|protection|Protect sheet
Give it a memorable password.

Be aware that this kind of protection is easily broken by anyone who really
wants to.

And there are lots of features that are unavailable on protected worksheets.
You may want to see if any of the stuff that you or the other users do will no
longer work.
