I have a site which accepts property advertisements. I am looking for a piece
of SW which will allow me to store the advertisements in a database and for
site visitors to do a search on the advertisements (e.g. price, location,
etc).

Ideally, I would also like a facility for agents to be able to add their
property details onto my site (password protected of course).

I had posted this question about a week ago and got an excellent response
mentioning 2020applications.com. Looked into it and they had just what I
wanted. Unfortunately, will not work on my host as my host is a Sun ONE ASP,
which is incompatible with this SW. Can anyone suggest another package
(hopefully within $200) which would work on Sun ONE ASP? Unfortunately I
cannot change hosts due to the investment made in other SW packages on my
existing host.

On a slightly different note, does anyone know of a free Mortgage calculator
which I could load onto my site?

Thanks for your consideration.

Do a search for ASP based Property Management application or you will need to learn to write it
yourself or hire a programmer.

I'm not keen on ASP. I want to keep everything on my site.

Maybe something around a SQL database (my host plan provides me with SQL
databases, I have 4 spare at the moment). I thought maybe an off-the-shelf
application that uses these might me suitable.

ASP (active server pages) runs on your site. Check with your web host to see what scripting language
are supported.

Thanks. A very useful list.

I've been looking at this but having trouble deciding which package to go
for. I guess I have a fair bit of research unless someone knows a killer
application.

I should have mentioned that my site is for French real estate (so if anyone
with a US/UK real estate site reads this, please note that I'm not a
competitor). The Open-Realty application seems to get a lot of attention
(perhaps because it is free) but I'm not sure if it is simple enough for a
non-technical guy like me.

Incidentally, my criteria for picking a package (in case anyone has a
specific recommendation) are:
- Allows me to add, edit and delete property advertisements
- Allows individual property agents to add, edit and delete advertisements.
Each agent to have a dedicated page (s), which is password protected so one
agent cannot access another agent's listings.
- Allows private individuals to place a property advertisement. Ideally,
prompt the individual for payment (e.g. by credit card through PayPal) and
after payment allow them to add a listing.
- A search engine which allows site visitors to search for property that
meet their criteria (e.g. based on region, price, etc.). I would like to be
able to specify the search criteria, which means that I would need to be able
to specify the fields for the form used to collect the advertisement
information.
- It needs to work on my WEB host (www.apollohosting.com), which uses Sun
ONE ASP (whatever that is!!!). I have SQL databases with my host, if that is
important.
- I'm relatively non-technical. The agents and private individuals are
completely non-technical. Consequently, the installation and interfaces need
to be pretty simple and intuitive, without requiring programing skills.

Ok, your requirements seem pretty specific so it may mean you'll need to
engage a programmer to write a custom solution if none of the pre-made ones
suit you.
