Win2k Pro workstation.

Trying to talk remote (home) user through a reconfig of
DNS and WINS server addresses. However, he cannot access
the Properties button so he can reconfigure the TCP/IP
stack. I even had him login with the local Administrator
account, but still it was greyed out. Could the
consultant he hired to set it up have removed the
Administrator user from the Administrators group? Any
other thoughts?

The built in administrator account can not be removed from the
administrators group. Sometimes the real administrator account is renamed
and a decoy account is then named administrator. Running "net user
administrator" will tell the group membership of that account while "net
localgroup administrators" will show who is in the administratrors group. It
is also possible someone configured Group Policy at the local level via
gpedit.msc to restrict access to neworking properties. Those settings would
be under user configuration/administrative templates/network/network and
dial up connections. If nothing is found enabled there, it still may help to
disable settings as appropriate that would allow access. --- Steve
