I can't change the ip address of a few Windows 2000
computers on our network. The properties box is disabled.
For others it's not. The only way I was able to change one
was to completely reinstall windows. What's up?

did you /release and /renew your adaptor?

How about uninstalling TCP/IP and reinstalling it?

Do all of these computers have the same NIC cards and are
the drivers properly installed?

I tried uninstalling TCP/IP. I get a message that I have
to have at least one network protocol and the protocol is
still there. I can access other folders, etc. on the
network after i've done this.
On another machine I ended up reinstalling Windows a month
or so ago. It was the same problem and I tried to delete
the nic and reinstall it. It wouldn't let me reinstall it.
They have the same cards and they seem to work fine
initially. I could change ip addresses or use dhcp if I
chose to but then something happens and the properties box
dims out and I can't access it.
On a number of other machines with similar cards,
everything remains fine.
