Pronunciation problem

My client wants a pronunciation for a word on one of his pages - I need to
put a straight line (overline) above a letter. Can someone tell me how to do
this in Frontpage 2003?

Thanks!

Steve,
I had found that with the overline but when I inserted, it moved my
character over and inserted it - instead of putting it over the character.
How do I get the line over the character, without deleting the character?

Thanks.

I would only resort to that if there were no other choice - and there are
plenty of other choices.

Hello Trevor,
I went to the link you provided and now I guess I need further instructions
since this is new to me... I guess I need the "spacing macron" symbol? I
tried inserting the ¯ beside the letter I wanted the symbol above but it
simply inserted a new character like before. Can you tell me what I'm doing
wrong?

Thanks!

Just use an HTML entity for it (Use Google to find pages listing
them).

Try http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp

Well, I must admit I didn't come in at the beginning, so I don't have your
original query still in my newreader (OE6). I just added a reference to HTML
entities in case you had trouble finding it by Google

I think that you are not doing anything wrong. "spacing macron" must mean
what it says - it is a symbol in its own right which spaces between one
character and another.

What you need is a composite character such as
A tilde (Ã or Ã)
A umlaut (Ä or Ä)

What is the character you need ?
Must it have a horizontal stroke (named a macron in the w3schools.com
reference) above it rather than a tilde or umlaut?

If so, I am afraid I have run out of ideas.

Use CSS
example:
<p>this is an <span style="text-decoration:overline;">overlined</span>
word</p>

That works poorly, Ron. The overline is at the top of the 'text-box', and
not very close to the actual top of the letter.

An HTML entity is perfect for this application.

Yes, but I can't find one which actually uses a horizontal line above the
letter. There are tildes and umlauts, but I can't find this one (which
appears to be named a macron).

I wrote a reply to Beverly along these lines, so I am interested to know
whether there are such entities.

But only if those entities exist. A quick Google search produces only the
common accented characters as mentioned by Beverley.
