Promotion to DC across WAN.

Is it possible to promote a server to a DC across the WAN. Wan speed is 1.5mbps with zero traffic at the moment. I have the server which I want to promote set up to use the existing DC as its Name server and it resolves correctly. But when I run DCPROMO I get to the Network Credentials screen, which I know are correct, and click on Next, I get the following message, "The wizard cannot gain access to the list of domains in the forest." The RPC server is unavailable. I hate that message.. I am on subnet 10.15.0.0 and the DC is on Subnet 10.150.0.0. The are no firewalls. All traffic is routed.I can ping the DC by name.

Question

Is it possible to run DCPROMO across the WAN
What am I doing wrong

Thank

Hi Bin-

Yes you can run it across a WAN. Check your DNS entries on the server you
are trying to promote to ensure it's got correct info and also verify your
DNS server has SRV, A , and PTR records for active AD DCs under the forest's
zone.
