Hello everybody, I'm going over some questions that I
picked up from a 'braindump' site. It's asking - if you
want to be able to detect and identify rogue
installations of network monitor on your network, what
should you do? A couple of the choices contains >install
a network monitor that supports promiscuous mode<. Now,
the correct answer (so the site says) is neither one of
those choices. I'm just wondering what exactly is
promiscuous mode, or is it something that's just thrown
in to make you more confused than you already are?? This
is something that I have never run accross or heard of
before.

its amazing how direct it is sometimes to get a reasonable answer out of
that site.... just do a search for 'define promiscuous mode' and there it
is.

Wayne, just think of "promiscuous mode" as some of the girls you might have
known in school that would just "read anybody's packet", even if it wasn't
supposed to be for them.
