When i use power point in a classroom situation and use a projector to
display the presentation the data on the laptop screen suddenly goes
smaller. any ideas ? is this because projector's use a much smaller
resolution ?

You probably are using a lower resolution for the projector. Is the computer
a laptop? It sounds like the display panel is not scaling resolutions lower
than the native resolution. Desktop or laptop, this is an adjustment in the
advanced driver for the video card/chip. Look for Flat Panel Scaling and you
want it to be on or expand the image when necessary.

Using a laptop yes.
Where is the setting that needs to be adjusted, in the adaptor software
settings ? or desktop display settings

Martin,

Find out what the 'resolution' is of both the laptop and the projector.
eg 1024x768 or 800x600 etc

Ideally they should match.

I can be more specific if you provide make and model of laptop and brand of
video card/chip...ATI, NVIDIA, Intel Graphics. For example, you want to get
to the NVIDIA Control Panel to find the "Change flat panel scaling" options.
Similar for the others. You may have a video scaling option in the system
BIOS as well.
