Progs hang for a few seconds before opening

this is very annoying, whenever I go to open a prog, it hangs for a few
seconds and then fires up. What can I do about this?

I have a very high spec pc and am running build 5472 on a partition as part
of a dual boot with xp pro
 
Hi T5,

If you have an AV program installed, try disabling it. Also, are you running
with UAC enabled? If so, does disabling it affect the delay?
