I cannot get progressive passes to work and stay on a picture inserted in
frontpage. In internet explorer, it doesn't work. Then when I go back into
the frontpage design mode, and check the picture properties, the progressive
passes is turned off (dimmed) again and the checkbox states "use image as is"
again.

Did you create the image with progressive passes to begin, within you image application?

No . . . it is an image from a digital camera. I thought by just inserting
an image downloaded froma camera, that I could then modify how it is
displayed by just indicating the number of passes and Frontpage would take
care of any modifications to the image file. Is this incorrect?

You have to set it a image editing application. FP just shows you what has been set in a image, then
may provide the ability to disable it.
