Progress bar of a presentation

Hello,

i want to please the audience of my presentation by showing them a "progress
bar" which indicates the evolution of the presentation.

for example: a vertical bar (at the left side) which colors a bit more with
every slide, so that with the last side the bar is totally colored.

or: a vertical bar with a small horizontal bar which moves downwards slide
by slide, to be at the bottem at the end of the presentation.

If possible this should be introduced in the master, so i don't have to redo
it for every slide. If this is not possible, no problem, just a bit more
work.

Anybody an idea how to do this?

Thanks

Ward

some more: i know this might be difficult to program it in VB, i have tried
it, but since i'm more or less a newbie with VB :-)
i have been looking LOTS of faq and all your webpages posted here, but
nothing on it....it can't be that nobody thought of this before??

Well, as you said, you can simply place it on each slide and tweak it
manually. Other than that I don't know how you would do it unless you have
the presentation locked to a specific amount of time. (The presentation has
no way of knowing how long you are going to talk about a given slide or
subject.)

This is a variation of the 'Slide x of yy' discussion. Sure, it can be
done.

Two questions:
1) What version of PowerPoint are you using?
2) Is the e-mail you are posting from correct?

If I come up with something pretty, I'll send it to you.

As a side note, do not use your real email address in any News Group. The
spam-bots troll the NG's in search of email addresses and, once harvested,
will load your inbox with garbage. It is strongly recommended that you use
a format similar to '(e-mail address removed)'

Speaking of which ... ( you sly dog, you )

Bill's written a nice addin to do Side X of Y page numbering and some other
fun, useful stuff, and has graciously permitted me to post it on the PPT
FAQ. It's not linked into the main table of contents yet, but the page and
the addin are live:

Slide numbering - Slide X of YY

Thanks, B!

I have different versions: XP and 2000.
Email address is changed now (with the NOSP@M)

this would be very nice...

I once saw it on a presentation and that's how i got the idea. But i don't
know if it was automised.
It would be a usefull tool though :-)

For the moment i'll do it with the slide X of Y add-in

Thanks!

[CRITICAL UPDATE - If you are using Office 2003, you should install this
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Ward,

PowerPoint does not have the ability you are asking for (without resorting
to VBA or add-ins).

If it is important to you (or anyone else reading this message) that
PowerPoint provide an out-of-the-box capability for easily displaying
various types of progress indicators (both audience viewable as well as
presenter only viewable) during slide show (without having to resort to VBA
or add-ins, so that the solution will also work in the Viewer), please send
your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
