I am running XP home edition. Some programs like quicktime or flash player
will run on one profile but not on another. When I try to look at content
that requires flash player I am told that I need to install the player, but
when I try to install the flash player the site tells me that it is already
installed. With quicktime I get an error regarding not being able to find or
load quicktime activex controls. These things all run fine on my sons profile
but will not run on mine. Much thanks to anyone that can help me with this
problem.

The following information is applicable only on Windows XP systems.

I had a similar problem when trying to run AOL on one of my computers. AOL
would run on one account/profile, but not another. I logged onto the account
in which AOL worked, uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. It worked fine
on all accounts/profiles after that.

My suggestion: log onto your son's user account (if it has administrative
privliges) and uninstall then reinstall the problematic programs. If your
son's account is not an administrator, then run the computer in safe mode. To
do this, turn on the computer and about a second ofter you press the pwr
button, press F8 a couple of times. Select "Start in Safe Mode." When the
logon screen appears, log on as Administrator (if needed, enter the
password). Then uninstall the programs like you normally would. Depending on
your ISP settings, you may or may not be able to connect to the Internet
while in safe mode. If you are not, and you need to download the software,
restart the computer normally ,log into your account, and download and
install the software.

This should solve your problem. Best of luck.
