Programs that start automatically

All of a sudden Windows media player starts automatically
everytime I start the computer. I wonder how this
happened and more importantly how do I stop it. I'm
using Windows XP Pro and I'm on a broadband intgernet
connection.

Yup, everyone should get this nice control panel.

But, your problem is easily solved without it, just go into WMP's options
and uncheck "Start WMP when windows starts".

Always dig thru an app's options and try to stop it from autostarting that
way before resorting to using the Startup Control Panel to prevent it.
Most apps do have an option you can toggle, but they often bury it pretty
deep in a dialog or on an obscure menu. Some simply have their installer
put a shortcut in the start menu's Startup folder [hiding in plain sight],
in which case you can just drag it to the trash.
