On each program you don't want to start automatically, check its
Options to see if it has the choice not to start. Many can easily
and best be stopped that way. If that doesn't work, run MSCONFIG
from the Start | Run line, and on the Startup tab, uncheck the
programs you don't want to start automatically.

Ken - I have 27 things loading in msconfig\startup. Only two in the
start\all programs\startup, which are repeats of them being checked in
msconfig\startup. I recognize maybe 1/3 of them. - stuff I have
installed. I am using about 350 MBs of memory out of 1 gig on
boot-up..

1st - I cannot make an unchecked box a permanent change. My computer
says it is in a test mode or whatever term it used (can't recall), and
if I reboot after that, all unchecked boxes are rechecked on startup.
There is no 2nd account on this computer. This is a 2.2 GHz Athalon,
by eMachines. How do I make the unchecked box permanent?

Some of this doesn't need to load, and may even be doing
stuff I don't want. Why do I need something from Winamp or Roxio or
Real to load on start? Are they connecting on the Internet or
something? I don't use these much. Why can't I just
start them when I want to start them by clicking on them? Or are they
just putting their settings in somewhere - like Real will start-up if
I run a RP movie, or WinAmp will run if I play MP3 files?

Do you have any ideas which ones I can safely turn off? :

NvCpl, nwiz, zHotkey, EngUtil, RxMon, Shwicon2k, pptd40nt,
IndexSearch, ccApp, AcctMgr, ISStart, LogiTrav, GhostStartTrayApp,
Sethook, , (that's a complete blank space for a filename),
realsched, dumprep 0 -k, qttask, mxyjxxn, winampa, DrgToDsc,
mswsoemon, WALLPA~1, Leechget, Restore desktop
(listed twice), mwsmoemon, MyWebSearch Ema.., SamrtUI,
MyWebSearch Ema..

I know what these are associated with: WALLPA~1, Leechget, Restore
desktop, GhostStartTrayApp, winampa, DrgToDsc, MyWebSearch Ema

Thanks,
Big Mac
