Hiya,

I have now had a few problems with programs installing but not showing up in the start menu in Windows Vista Home Premium I have SP1 with all the latest updates.

Can you please advise,

Thanks,

wizkid

If they're games look in the games folder, not all games get put in the start menu.

If they're not games check the quick launch bar/window.

Is it possible that you just did not found the program icon in your start menu tree?

Flopps,

Thanks for your reply.

I'll check what you said and then let you know.

Thanks,

I just guess what could be. If the program installs normally (with shortcut in start menu) in Win XP, then it is not ready for Vista. Does the program install normally in Win XP?

Wizkid ... I discovered that I too have a programme which is "missing" from the start menu (I only discovered that yesterday :) ) But, my solution was to bring up Windows Explorer (by simply typing it into the Start Menu's Search Box) and when Explorer opened, the programme was listed there.

I re-checked my Start menu, just to ensure I hadn't just overlooked the entry, but no, it isn't there. So whilst I cannot offer any explanation, you might want to try the above, to see whether your programme shows up too. (It's then possible to create a short-cut, of course.)

Does any one have a problem with Administrative Tools folder not showing in Start Menu all programs? if I right click on the start button I can see it inn program files but it does not seem to be there when I look in the start up menu? I hope I've explained myself enough if not then please ask and I'll post more information.

Thanks again,

wizkid

On mine, Administrative Tools appears within the "All Programmes" menu and also on the right-hand side of the Start Menu (when you left click on the Windows Button.)

You might try left clicking the Button to open the Start Menu, then right click on a blank area, which brings up "Customise" when you get the next window "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" click on "Customize."

The next window will be the "Customize Start Menu" so scroll down until you reach "System Administrative Tools" and "tick" the option to "Display on the All Programs menu and the Start menu." Click ok and hopefully, your Admin Tools will appear for you.

(I really cannot remember whether it needed a re-start after doing this, because it was ages ago that I did it ;) )

TC,

Thanks for your post did you have to set Administrative Tools your self or was it allready on the all progarms list?

Thanks,

Hi Wiz.. I can't remember whether it was already on the All Programmes list to begin with, only that I customised the Start Menu a bit when I first got Vista.

If my first suggestion didn't work for you though, there is something else you can try. Open your Start Menu, then right click a space to bring up the Properties window. This time, select the option for the "Classic Menu" then, click the "Customise " button and this time you should see an option right at the top of the list "Display Administrative Tools."

You can always change back to the Vista Start Menu afterwards.

Hi TC,

Thanks for your reply. It worked a treat. I was wondering if you might know why Microsoft Flight simulator x is not showing in the start up menu?

Thanks again TC,

Wiz

Mine doesn't either.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread Vista doesn't put all applications into the start menu, some games, for instance, it only puts a link to in the games folder.

You can right click the Flight Sim X icon in the games folder and add it to the Quick Launch bar, if that's any help.

Flopps,

Its not showing in the games folder in the start menu? is this the same with yours?

Thanks,

Wiz

Just a thought... Wiz, you have looked down at the "boring" bit of the Start Menu, have you..? See the pic, my Games folder is at the bottom, amongst the "buff folders" which lack any "pretty" icons ;)

Thanks for the reply TC,

I've looked down the start menu and I cent seem to see it any where I've checked this about 3 times so I think I will try that link you suggested to me in your post.

Thanks,

I don't mean the games folder in the start menu, I mean the one to the right of the start menu, sandwiched twixt 'Music' & 'Computer'.
