Or lack of...

Hi there

Does anyone know why, after a clean upgrade to W2K Pro from W98, the
programs menu from the start button should suddenly lose most of the
contents of the menu, plus the links from above the "Programs" entry. I had
several programs listed, Office, etc., but now just seem to have Accessories
and System Tools plus a few program links. I reckon at least 90% is
missing. All I can think I've done previous to this is to copy the
Administrator profile to that of All Users. I am using the main
Administrator account & profile.

I've downloaded and run all MS Security patches, plus the latest antivirus
patch - running as I type (using my other laptop for this).

I need a seriously quick reply here as the PC is required for Monday.... :(

Yours seriously hoping..

My "seriously quick reply" you won't like. Save user data. Wipe it
all out. Do a W2k fresh and clean installation .... I've never
seen a upgrade installation without problems.

Does that also account for the fact that I've also lost desktop icons, plus
the bit that says in the WWW browser "{website name} provided by {IPS name}-
the ISP name part has also gone, but *not* in the registry, here it is how
it should be...

I doubt I'll have time again to do a clean install, may just copy shortcuts
to the menu from the program files list.
