Programs Automatically Open

How do I stop programs from automatically opening everytime I turn on my computer? I know this is a dumb question, but I can't figure it out. Someone please help.

Start - Run - type MSCONFIG and click OK. See if the executable files for
the programs you want to stop are listed, and if so, UNcheck them.
 
Hi Remy,

You can look in the program themselves, in the 'options' menu, they
generally have an option where you can tell them not to start with
Windows.

However, if they don't have it or it proves too difficult to find, you
can go to Start > Run and type 'msconfig' (without the quotes)
msconfig is a program that lets you adjust which programs start with
windows, go to the last tab and uncheck any program you don't want to
automatically start with Windows.
