Development and distribution of Programmer's File Editor has come to an end,
and the PFE Web Site is now closed; regrettably time will not permit
replying to PFE-related e-mail.

If you are looking for Year 2000 compliance information, see the statement
here

The final release of PFE is version 1.01, which is available in versions for
Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 3.1x. It's available from a
number of major archive sites:

Well, with all do respect, I think it's time to let go of PFE. There
are numerous open source/freeware alternatives out there that do the
same thing and in most cases a whole lot more.

I understand that people tend to cling to the interface they are
used to. But it's only a short learning curve that's needed to have
all the goodness of modern text editors.

Nothing personal :-), just my opinion...

Seems to be back...

On Winsite, it's moved to
http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000017700 - PFE101i (Win9x/NT/2k)
http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000001519 - The Win3 version

On Simtel
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=11983 32 bit
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=11996 Win3

I really ought to mave to something more recent, but it's like a
comfortable old pair of shoes... until they wear out, why change them.

Well, with all do respect, I think it's time to let go of PFE.

The one feature that I use PFE for is the very simple macro

shift f7 start record
cntrl f7 end record
f7 execute macro

Do you know of any other program with a macro record/execute of this
elegant simplicity? If it's there I'd switch. The nice thing about it
is that it's right up front and not burried in some sub menu

PSPad seems to have CTRL+F5 to start/stop recording macro's, plain F5 to
play them. I don't use PSPad's macro function and I don't use PFE, so I
wouldn't know how they compare in this regard... but you're welcome to try
it and let us know :-)

Oh yeah, if you're going to give it a shot, grab the 4.3.3 beta version
from the PSPad Betas forum. It's far stable enough for decent use and has
the latest features added.
