Once - some two years ago - I used a text editor that could display (in a
separate window) a list of defined functions/procedures/data definitions. By
clicking on e.g. a function name the contents of the editing window was
replaced by the portion of the text where this functions was defined, i.e.
some sort of tags/etags functionality.

It was not a conventional folding editor. It allowed me to define and group
those regular expressions that was used to find items to show in the
'structure' window.

IIRC, it was a freeware.

Now, some disks later, I can't locate this editor. Nor can I remember it's
name.

Anyone, any ideas of name and/or whereabout for it?

I'll help you look. I have one like you describe stored on a CD
someplace. Used it for HTML document creation.

Sorry, I was thinking of NoteTab Light, which has good HTML features.
