Hi I hope someone here has a good advise:) I'm fearing that my Toshiba
MK1237GSX S-ATA II hdd is singing on its last verse and need a good
programme that can test it. Unfortunately toshiba dont do like other
manufacturers and make their test programme so I'm a bit lost for what I
can use.

Others on the net has experienced similair probleme as I have, also with
different brands :
In the midlle of doing something I suddently hear a 1 sec High pitch beep,
and now(not before) I also hear a clicking sound. This occur randomly and I
cant force it to happen. The sounds seem to come from the HDD, its not
system beeps because that is turned off in Bios.

I have been a supporter for over 20 years and heard many sounds from
failing hardware including HDD's but I have never experienced this
before. Then again I have been out of circulation for some years now, so I'm
not so familiair with S-ATA II HDD's.

Toshiba support in Scandinavia suck, they have no answer for this or any
other technical question - they dont even have the model(its really Sykes -
different company). And apperently Toshiba US wont answer either, since
they now are past the 24 hours were they promise to get back to u within.

Its Vista home premium 32bit.

Regarding Vista, there are nothing in any of the logs that could explain
this strange behaviour. Neither did Chkdsk find anything.

Do any of you have a suggestion?

Of course I made backup of the hdd, I have it all on an external drive -
just in case.

There isn't really much that can be repaired, if a drive was
working properly then ceased to do so it is likely to fail
again so all the diagnostics are meant to do is check some
basic parameters and pass or fail it.

Personally I wouldn't take the chance, would go ahead and
get a new drive ASAP.

I now have run the DFT and it came up with no error neither on quick nor
advanced. So that it passes, but if you know of a more extensive programme
i like to hear it:)
