Program to check for Windows errors

I have been told that I might have accidentally deleted some Windows files
that would help another program run properly. Is there a program or
something that would check my Windows to see if all my files are working
properly?

I currently have Windows 2000 SP 3 on a laptop.

One suggestion:

Update your Antivirus and then you should really upgrade to SP4 and Rollup
update package. After that update the also with the available security updates
from windowsupdate.com
