I know that some of my shortcuts, such as for OpenOffice.org, contain
parameters. How can I see these parameters and if I create my own shortcut
how do I add parameters?

Right-click an existing shortcut and choose Properties. You can see its
parameters there and that will also give you a model to follow for creating
future shortcuts.

Maybe I'm blind. Properties show

TARGET: OpenOffice.org 2.1
STARTIN: "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\"

I don't see parameters. All modules of OpenOffice.org have the same as above
but the correct module starts.

Then that shortcut doesn't have parameters. Not every one does. That's a
strange target, ending in .org, which isn't an executable name, but I don't
use OpenOffice and can't compare it here.

I start Outlook Express in newsonly mode, with the /outnews parameter,
because I use it for news only, not E-mail. The target for /Outlook Express
here reads "F:\Program Files\OE-QuoteFix\OELaunch.exe" /outnews
