Hello
Vista Business
4gb Ram
A few days ago, PaintshopProX2 which I've had for about a year, started to
open extremely slow. Eventually I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it,
but now when I start it, the window opens just past the Splash screen , but
the pointer has the circular thing going and then just hangs 'not
responding' is on the title. And does not open at all.
I've run McAfee, Add-Aware, Stinger, Avast, SuperAntispyware and CCleaner
but that hasn't helped.
I've installed the program on hubbie's laptop and it's fine so the CD isn't
damaged. Any ideas please on what to do?
Thank you
J

Have you done a system clean ( NOT registry ) and defrag ?

Maybe that version of PSP Pro is not compatible with Vista. Have you checked that it
is? Your other computers that the PSP is running normally are they also Vista. Just
giving you some hints <wink>

I had PSP PhotoX2 on a 4GB Vista Home Premium machine and upgraded to
PSP Photo X2 'Ultimate', the blurb from Corel said

" The new Ultimate upgrade kit provides you with an updated
build of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 so itâ?Ts now fully certified for
Microsoft® Windows Vista®- allowing for improved integration into the
Vista®operating system - "

so draw your own conclusion from that. The 'Ultimate' is trouble free
on my system.

Otherwise Corel do/did provide a PSP Zap utility on their site to
uninstall everything if you want to have another go at re-install.

As has been mentioned before, McAfee and Avast don't like each other with
McAfee being the major offender.
Only one program should be 'running' at the same time and I'd prefer Avast.

My wife has similar problems with that program sometimes.

Look in your personal folder (windows\profiles\<yourname>, or
Documents and Settings\<yourname>, or something like that). Look under
"Program Data" and see if there's a Corel directory. Then find the
Paintshop directory under that. Try renaming it and see if the program
will start now. If it does, delete the directory you just renamed.

Thanks Tim
Today it opened straight away with no problems. How weird. That was 4 days
that I had problems. And now it's like nothing happened.
Of course the project I was on is over, had to use another computer, you
can bet when I need to start my next project, it'll play up again. But at
least I'll be able to try your solution.
