Windows XP Professional is the OS of my portable computer.
Recently, it was erratic (just going blank all of a sudden
and not restarting). I had to run the battery dead in
order to restart. I inserted the CD to ask the program
to "repair"; instead, it went into Setup to re-install.
When it reaches about 84% of the function, the screen
says "Unable to read file AUTOEXNT.BAT". Nothing I can do
but to "Quit-F3". Then, it dies "again" and I have to
repeat the disconnect, running the battery dead, etc.
Has anyone a solution to this problem?
Thanks!

Not a solution but you can remove the battery
instead of letting it run down.

THANKS, gls858, for the suggestion. But the problem is

NOT to exhaust the power. The problem is that the computer
does NOT work! The Setup function never concluded, Windows
claims not finding the mentioned file, does not proceed,
quits...and that is it. When re-starting, Windows says
that the re-installation was never complete. It is a Catch-
22.

Sorry,I read the part about running the battery dead in order to restart
and thought you were doing it because that was the only way it would
restart.

I hope you have you data backed up.
