Does anyone know of a freeware program that is similar to this one. It is
some kind of synthesizer program that also allows you to add your own
recorded loops and mix them with sound effects.
Thanks in advance,
Carolyn

It doesn't have as many fx options as Fruity, but you could try the free
version of Tuareg, available from
http://www.brambos.com/
if you want to get something a little (lot :) more in depth you could try
Buzz, http://www.buzzmachines.com/ which is a modular tracker environment.

my own favourite is audiomulch, http://www.audiomulch.com/
it's actually shareware ($50) but the current beta version is fully
functional and free. like buzz it's a modular environment and is extremely
flexible, fully vst compliant.

again not quite free, but if you can get a hold of Computer Music magazine,
(the one published in the uk) each issue comeswith a free version of
Computer Muzy's, which is more of a Cubase type program, well worth a look.

hope this helps.

Excellent! Buzz is back! The website had vanished a while back and I feared
the worst.

Buzz is, perhaps, not as intuitive as F.Loops, but it _is_ free and
definitely gets the job done.

Thanks very much for your reply. I will look into all these programs today.

These programs were for my son. While his computer was over at my house
getting cleaned up from his latest install disaster, I gave him the links
and also downloaded two of them and put them on his computer for him to take
a look at.
My personal opinion would be to stay away from the beta software. The first
two suggestions both looked like good possibilities, each doing different
things, but both programs looking like they would be useful.
I may download and install the Tuareg program for myself. :o)

Understand your point re beta software - but if the stability of the program
is your concern, i have to say that audio mulch is one of the most stable
audio applications i've ever used - commercial and non-commercial. i think
the author is just such a perfectionist he wants to get everything 100%
right before he releases a final version (microsoft take heed ;)

anyway, hope both you and your son have fun with whatever programs you
decide to use!
