On my desktop running an Intel mobo, adding any transition, effect, or
anything else causes movie maker to freeze...no activity in Prog manager.
Close is the only option. I can insert clips, and save them out.

I turned off video acceleration, no joy, but not sure what to look at next.
Win XP SP2, a fairly fresh install without a lot of junk loaded. 512 MB ram,
1.6 GHz p4. Any ideas?

And why, oh why, didn't MS make this program fully functional...allowing
video import from analog usb devices and export to vcds. [rhetorical
question]

the trend about capturing analog via USB is going in the other direction...
it's getting harder to do, and the Help file of Vista says clearly that
capturing is from digital devices via firewire, and to use your other
software for analog capture...

Yeah, you're right. But analog stuff is plentiful, cheap, and for a lot of
applications the quality is plenty good enough. As for saving out, I'm
reminded that it took six or seven versions of PowerPoint before it had a
workable export to CD system. (the old 'package' was a joke)

BTW, I think it was you that recommended Nero for making VCDs the other day,
and it worked great this morning. Howeva, the demo is 125 MB, has ~12 other
apps bundled, and tries to take over the system. I wrangled it into shape,
but I wouldn't recommend this package to everyone. If I could still get just
the Nero Vision tool that would be better.
