Program Freezes After Updating

My Outlook Express version 5.5 (IE 5.5)was working fine
until I downloaded the recommnended updates from
Microsoft. OE opens and can retrieve messages, but the
program freezes whenever I try to reply to an email or
update my address book. I then have to use the Task
Manager because the program stops responding.

Interestingly, I can open my address book and update it if
I access the file by drilling down through
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address
Book\UserMPS.wab.

I've tried upgrading to IE6 and OE6, but it didn't work.
I've tried uninstalling Outlook, but it only got rid of
the 6.0 version. I want to try removing the 5.5 version so
that I can reinstall, but I don't even see the OE 5.5
version in "Add/Remove Programs", yet the icon is on the
toolbar and launches 5.5 when clicked.

I've searched the MS knowledge base (including IT) and
can't find anything to address this problem.

Any help would be most appreciated. If you email me,
please remember that I can't respond.

Thanks

try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup

post but it works for some people)
