There are lots of programs that offers that, but I haven´t found the right
one:

I want a program that shuts down windows (XP) if the computer hasn´t been
used for a certain amount of time (example: 1 hour) during a certain
timeperiode (example: 6PM to 7AM). If the computer is used until - say - 9PM
then program should shutdown the computer at 10PM.

Any suggestions?

Well, it´s not exactly what I´m looking for!
What is important is that during the day, the computer should not shutdown
even if the computer isn´t used for several hours.
But in the afternoon and night it should shut down if it hasn´t been used
for some time!

I guess your solution would shutdown the computer after a while at any time
od the day!?

I think this a program called Sleppy can do this http://sleepy.sashazur.com/

Version 5.0 is freeware, version 6.0 (beta) is free if you d/l and use it in
beta period

you can shut down windows by just using a simple command line and a
scheduled task. just go into scheduled tasks and make a new one that is set
to run when you want your computer to shut down and in the command line box,
just type:
c:\windows\rundll32.exe user.exe,exitwindows

That´s right - I´ve tried it, but if the computer is not idle at the time
the sheduled job is supposed to run - it wont be startet that night!

But thanks anyway!

Lars

Go to Scheduled job settings and set retry for as many minutes as you want.

Thanks again for new suggestions! I did try it, though! But, but, but...

I´m looking for the combination:
*** Shut down if the time of the day is for instance 10 PM - but only if the
computer hasn´t been used for say half an hour!
***If this is not the case and the computer is in use, it shouldn´t shut
down, but wait for instance another hour and then check if the computer is
in use - and if this is not the case - shutdown.

Wayne, Thanks for the program idea. It works perfect for me. I have always
wanted to shut down my computer in the evenings.Sometimes I forget. Now if I
can figure out how to turn off the sound XP makes while turning off, I would
be happy.

I imagine that it works like in my Win98 (?). I'm not at an XP
computer now but at my own but I'll outline how to do it in Win98.
The process will be similar in XP, I have done this on it and other
OS's. Go through these steps - or in all cases, their XP equivalent:

START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > double-click on SOUNDS

In the EVENTS window of the SOUNDS tab, the sound events start in
Win98 with the one for "Windows". It's the 6th event down in Win98
called "Exit Windows". There is a box just below the events box
called, again, "Sound". It currently has a WAV selected, this is done
by default upon installation of any Windows OS.

You can change to no sound by choosing "(None)" from the WAV files
listed in the pulldown. A confirmation box comes up asking if you
want to remove the sound for this event, you choose OK. Then click OK
to exit the SOUNDS box. Next time you exit Windows, there will be no
sound.

Glad you like it. I am sure the programmer would like you to drop him a
short thank you e-mail. I have in the past and the do enjoy the feed
back.

You can always write programmer and ask him to include that in his
program.
