Any recommendations for a good freeware program I can use to take the redeye
out of my photo files?

Thanks.

I use irfanview all the time. How do you use it to remove red eye. I've
re-checked the menus/toolbars and see nothing related to that.

Thanks.

Use your mouse to select the red eye and go to the Image menu -> Red Eye
Reduction.
If you don't have that option, make sure you're using the newest version of
the software.

Yep, you two are correct. I should have known this great program would have
a red eye correction. Because of your replies, I found it. I had not been
selecting the red eye first and the option under image was always grayed
out.

By experimenting, I found that one can select the red eye then type CTRL I,
CTRL E and a window will come up that allows you to select red eye
reduction, among other things, select the amount of red filter to apply and
also give a preview of the finished product. These settings then become the
default when simply selecting the area and going to Image>Red Eye Reduction

Great program. Thanks.

Shouldn't need to? Enlarge the picture enough so that you can work pixel
by pixel should do it.

Thanks. Image analyzer works well. It seems to me Irfanview was leaving a
gray colored blotch over the pupil that I could see after correction. Image
analyzer doesn't seem to do this.

I went to Image Analyzer's web page and downloaded the zip file and
extracted it into a directory and it ran. It worked. I guess this also
means that like Irfan, it isn't messing around with my registry, etc. I
like that. They have a much larger exe file which "installs" it I guess and
probably alters your computer more.

I had found PhotoPlus 5.5 from Jim's (see earlier response) at
www.usablefreeware.com and he seemed to like it. I download that. It is
free but needs registered and it has some kind of downloader with it that
seems to have scared a few people. Works fine. I think it does more to
alter things on your computer than does Image Analyzer. From some reviews I
read of it they seem to think it has great potential for other aspects of
modifying images.
