I am wanting to know some information about some of the
folders in the Program Files folder. There are several I
see as being pointless, but I can't delete them (using
the "usual" method). Such folders include: Common Files,
ComPlus Applications, microsoft frontpage, InstallShield
Installation Information, Movie Maker, MSN Gaming Zone,
NetMeeting, Outlook Express, Uninstall Information,
Windows Media Player, Windows NT, and xerox. Now
obviously, some of those folders are self explanatory as
to what they contain, etc (Movie Maker, Outlook Express,
Windows Media Player, etc), but I do not USE some of these
and some of them I may use but am not aware of it. I was
wondering how many of these I can safely delete and how to
go about that.

Thanks for you time,
GAT

Do not delete the Common Files folder. You will break installed
applications and possibly hinder the installation and correct operation of
new programs if you do so.

Thank you for the information about the ComPlus
Applications folder, that's quite helpful to know.
What about any of the other folders I have listed? I'd
still like to know a little bit about them as well please.

Thanks,
GAT

There are several folders in Program Files that cannot be deleted. Xerox
for example. Besides the nwwia folder, mine's empty too and I think it is
here in case you use the Windows Image Acquisition features. With most of
these "empty" folders, if you delete these m, they just reappear again.
Since they're pretty much empty - just ignore them.

For components that can be added or removed, review Add/Remove Programs for
general applications. Add/Remove Programs> Add/Remove Windows Components
for XP applications. NOTE: Removing some of the components may still leave
some folders and files behind - leave them in place. Reason is usually that
some other part of Windows relies on a file from that component.
