Microsoft Updates.

Hi Tony

Looks as if you are infected with the MS Blaster Virus. You need to take
action immediately. Please do the following:

First, install the Security Patch which is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...46-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117&displaylang=en

In order to install this update you need to have at least Windows 2000
Service Pack 2 installed. To verify which Service Pack (if any at all) is
installed, please do the following:

Go to 'Start' and there Select 'Run..'. In the new window that appears type
"winver" (without the ") and there see what it says.

If you have installed SP2 or later then you are ok and can go ahead with the
Security Update Installation. If not, then please get SP2, SP3 or SP4.

If you don't have SP2 or above, then my suggestion is that you get SP4 as in
it is the latest and in it there are all previous Service Packs contained.

To obtain SP4 go here:

Go here to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/download.asp

Direct Download Link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/6/A/E6A04295-D2A8-40D0-A0C5-241BFECD095E/W2KSP4_EN.EXE
(~130 MB)

If you don't want to download anything then you can order SP4 on CD.
Shipping+Handling costs apply. To order go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/ordercd.asp.

or:
Order the CD by Phone or Fax
Call (800) 360-7561
Fax (716) 447-7330

a.. Request part number C11-03228 for SP4 English
b.. Request part number C11-03229 for SP4 French

Using a Download Manager will allow you to interrupt/resume when you like.
Get a free Download Manager here:

LeechGet: http://www.leechget.de/

Some Shareware Download Managers are:

GetRight: http://www.getright.com

FlashGet: http://www.flashget.com/

Go!Zilla: http://gozilla.com/index.htm

and many more...

If you prefer to install a different Service Pack, then go to the following
page and pick a Service Pack (must be 2 or above, though):

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/default.asp

NOTE: The suggested version of the Service Pack is the 'Network
Installation' which is a bigger download, but which can be installed without
connecting to the Internet.

If you prefer to do an 'Express Installation' (slightly smaller) -
recommended for dialup connexions - then please be sure to download this
(for SP4):

http://download.microsoft.com/download/B/1/A/B1A2A4DF-CC8E-454B-AD9F-378143D77AEB/SP4Express_EN.exe

To get Express Installations of other Service Packs go as well to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/default.asp

NOTE: Always backup your system *before* installing and please choose to
archive the files during Setup as this will allow you to roll back the SP
Installation in the unlikely case that problems would occur.

Once the Patch is installed, you should remove the Worm by doing this:

Download a free MS Blaster Worm Remove Tool from here:

http://www.symantec.ca/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

Run it and then restart your Computer. It is now updated and protected.

If you want to verify whether the Security Update was installed correctly,
then you can
download a Utility from MS which verifies if this specific Security Update
is installed. To get this free Utility go here:

- "MS03-026 Scanning Tool for Network Administrators:"

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6c-b71b-4992-91f1-aaa785e709da&DisplayLang=en
(<300 KB)

For instructions on how to use this tool go here:

- "How to Use the KB 823980 Scanning Tool to Identify Host Computers That Do
Not Have the 823980 Security Patch (MS03-026) Installed":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826369

Alternatively, you can get the free Retina RPC DCOM Vulnerability Scanner
from eEye Digital Security (you need to provide a valid Email address to
download it).

http://www.eeye.com/html/Research/Tools/RPCDCOM.html

To learn everything about the MS Blaster Worm and how to protect yourself,
go to: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
