Program association

I am unable to open some e-mail attachments. I get the following message:
THISFILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR OPENING THIS ACTION.
CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE FOLDERS OPTIONS CONTROL PANEL. Just how do I
do this?????

Ask the sender what specific application was used to create the file,
and then obtain a copy and install it on your computer.

Hi,

What is the file extension for the file type?
Does it have a specific icon or is it generic?
Have you tried saving it first, or is this when the error occurs?
