My profile corrupted recently and I had to create a new one. It wasn't a
problem but I got to thinking on how I can backup my full profile so that if
it ever happened again I wouldn't have to set everything up again. I would
need a backup of the data, email settings, even small stuff like icons and
desktop stuff. Is there a way to do this in Win 2000? I know XP has a file
and settings transfer wizard which will do this but is their something for
2000?

I can ghost the disk which is another alternative but I would like to know
how to backup just my profile and what to backup.

Thanks for your help.

You could use ntbackup.exe to back up your whole profile folder
to a backup file. To be sure that it works you should then do this:
- Reboot the machine.
- Log on under an admin account other than your own.
- Rename the backed up profile folder.
- Restore it from the backup file.
- Log on under your usual account.
- Make sure that everying is the way it should be.
Without this test, the process would be fairly useless.

That assumes you know which profile you are actually using. Some Mozilla
programs I use slipped in using "default" and some use my normal profile
but
there are several copies in various directories. The Mozilla
developers have rejected my suggestion of announcing the active Profile
name and location on Help>About.

I just tried it and it worked fine for me, some small kinks but overall it
worked fine. It didn't copy my outlook pst file so that is something that
should be backed up separately and it was missing some newsgroups but other
than that all ok.

Thanks Again
Chris
