I was always irritated by Outlooks insistance on checking
all email accounts at the same time, without the option
that exists in OE to select which account, or to only
send or only receive.

Having bought a new computer and a new version of Office,
I thought to remedy this by setting up "profiles" -
unless there is a better way.

However, having set up the profiles and gone to the first
one I cannot see the name of my profile anywhere on
screen. This seems to be quite important, perhaps I'm
looking in the wrong place, can anyone help me?

Thanks
John

Also, there doesn't seem to be any direct path in the
toolbar or on the drop down menus to fast move from one
profile to another. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

You must exit Outlook completely to switch profiles. It's all explained in
the answer to your other post.

Thanks very much, I'm not sure I understand it but I have
printed the pages and will try. It does not mention the
use of multiple dial up/ADSL accounts, do you know if the
suggestion will also handle selection of profile to match
the appropriate email account?

Thanks
john

Some versions of Outlook handle multiple mail accounts better than others.
You didn't mention your version, nor the type of mail accounts you'll be
using, so there's now way for me to answer. In Outlook 2002 and higher,
there's no need to create separate profiles for separate accounts, but if
each account requires a separate connection type, it still may be easier to
do so.

I'm setting up a new Compaq computer running XP with a
new copy of Office with Outlook 2002 and trying to
configure it before I jump off the old Windows 98 1st
edition. I must get it right before I change or the
business will suffer.

I am slowly moving all mail accounts to BT ADSL but, for
example, Russian ISP's reject mail from BT and also from
Pipex, so I continue to use an old ukonline dial up for
Russia mail. Then there's the old Pipex accounts on a
different dial up number that are not yet quite dead. So
I have six operating email accounts on 3 alternative
connections!

Regards
John

The choice is yours, then. Outlook 2002 can handle multiple accounts fine,
but you'll have to remember to establish the correct connection when you
poll each account. If you set each account up correctly using a Phone Line
designation, Outlook might even be able to manage the connections for you.
It seems that separate Profiles still might be the easier way to go.

I'm sure I posted yesterday on this question but it has
not appeared. I hope the post is not too old to be looked
at still.

I have an new Compaq running XP and have bought Office XP
with Outlook 2002. I have one ADSL account and two dial
up accounts I cannot dump, one because BT and Pipex get
rejected by Russian ISP's, and the Pipex account because
it is well known by my customers.

A bit concerned this header says "post a new message" when
I clicked "reply". Hey Ho, we'll see,

Thanks
John
