This is actually a windows 2000 professional problem, but there doesn't seem
to be a better place for it. I have a user who has problems using her
computer, it crashes in outlook and word. I have looked on the pC and her
windows profile is 450MB. I want to delete it and start again but it won't
let me. If I navigate to it in explorer and hit delete it tells me there is a
sharing violation. If I go through system properties/user profiles and
highlight it the delete button is greyed out. Any help?

There are Windows 2000 groups and there are Office groups to deal with
Outlook and Word issues. You cannot delete a profile folder while you
are logged on as the owner of the profile, you have to be logged on as
another user with administrative privileges to delete profile folders.

I question the necessity of actually having to delete the user to repair
the problem but that is up to you to decide. If you delete the profile
folder you are for all intents and purposes deleting the user, if that
is what you really want to do delete the user account before deleting
the profile folder. You do understand that *all* the user settings and
preferences will be deleted. You also do understand that *all* the
users data files, emails and what not stored in the profile folder will
be lost! I strongly advise against deleting the profile folder unless
you have a backup of all the user's personal files!

Instead of going by the radical route that you suggest why not start by
deleting the IE cache and the temporary files in her folder? Then ask
on one of the Office groups for further help with the Outlook and Word
problems.

If you really must create a new profile then see here:

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I was logged in as an adminstrator. A scan disk
actually fixed the problem. Still can't see a windows 2000 group though.
