profile new domain admt2 question

with everything win2k server / win2k pro based ...

we are using admt2 to migrate computer accounts, users and passwords
over to a new replacement domain - is it possible to keep the old users
profiles once you have added the machine to the new domain?

we have a few hundred machines to do and if the old profiles can be
utilised it will save a major headache in redoing everything

if they can be utilised any pointers on how?

The old profiles can be used. Are you Migrating SID history also?
1) migrate account to new domain.
2) log user into new domain
3) log back out and log in as local administrator
4) navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Profilelist
5) Under this folder their is a list of everyone that has logged on to that
machine. Highlight each folder one by one until you find the folder that
matches the profile you want to change. You want to look on the right hand
side for ProfileImagePath. This is what you want to change.
Ex: ProfileImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemDrive%\Documents and
Settings\julie
When you log in to the new domain with the same user ID it should add
and extension to the user ID. %SystemDrive%\Documents and
Settings\julie.NEW_DOMAIN. Edit this entry to point back to the original
path.
This involves modifying the registry so do so at your own risk. This is a
quick and effective way to switch profiles. I have done over 800+ like this
for our domain migration and have only run into a handfull of problems, but
it sure beats doing the copy thing.

yes, migrating everything we can

well, if this works will beat resetting up everyones profiles for sure!
just have to test it now but as things are happening tomorrow not much
time!

... dont you hate it when your brought on board waaaaay too late and
things havent been followed up on or questioned.

has anyone else used this method sucessfully, it does seem fairly
straight forward?
