My System is a Dell that came preloaded with Windows 2000
Professional

I discovered on 7/29/03 after I opened a bogus E-Mail that
I contracted the W32.GibeB@mm virus. I cleaned it with
the Symantec Fix Gibe, whose instructions stated that I
had to log on as the administrator. I could not remember
the Administrator password so I gave Adminstrator rights
to the only User ID for the computer ANH. After the virus
was removed, I removed the adminstrator rights to ANH and
Logged back on to ANH. The icons on my desktop were all
gone. I attemped to recreated them 5 times but each time
I log off the ID ANH and log back on, the icons are gone
again. The system acts as if it's a new OS load taking me
to the Welcome to Windows screen, and setting up my E-Mail
and Explorer Browser every time. When I go into "System"
under the "Control Panel" and look at user profiles, there
are three there. One is ANH/administrator, the other is
JAB/Administrator, the other shows "Unknown Account". THe
profile show it's 24205 KB and the last date shows
7/29/03. The other 2 profiles allow you to change from
Roaming & Local users and copy the file. The only option
I have for the "Unknown Account" is Local, everything
except Delete and Properties, is "grayed" out. I know
this is the profile for the original ANH user ID. So my
questions are :

1) Is there anyway to get that user profile back?
2) Why do my icons disappear everytime I log off the SNH
user ID?

Rename the corrupt/ damaged profile. Then the next time the user logs on a
new profile will be created from an image in \default user Then you can
copy/ import what you need from the profile before deleting it.

You can probably skip the rename.

You'll find them in;
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\
