Profile folder does not change with account user rename

I have rename a user account, say from bonnef to bob for
example. I noticed that the profile folder in the Document
and Settings folder is still listed at bonnef. Does that
mean I need to copy the "bonnef" profile to a "bob"
profile? I thought that renaming the user account would
also rename the profile folder but it did not.

I am using Win2000 Pro stand alone.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When you rename a user account in Windows 2000 it does not
automatically change the user's profile folder name. This is by design
in Windows 2000. To resolve this issue:

- Log in as a user in the Administrators group but not using the account
you want to rename
- Rename the folder on the hard drive
- Run regedt32.exe and find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\

- Click each "folder" under this key and look for the ProfileImagePath
value that contains the old path to the user profile you just renamed
- Edit the path to point to the new folder name. For example, change

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\bonnef

to

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\bob

Before you edit the registry I recommend that you understand how to
backup, edit and restore the registry. For more information see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article and/or Registry FAQ. In
particular, I suggest that you read the KB Article section titled "How
to Export Registry Keys" and then before you edit the registry export
the keys that you plan to edit.
