When booting up my system generates an error message indicating my main
profile is corrupt and will create a temp profile instead.
So it boots into the temp, and I go into Documents and Settings and I see my
old profile folder. It now has a ".bak" extension added onto it.
I go into the folder an I see all my old stuff ie: favorites, folders,
desktop icons that I had before, etc.
I renamed the folder by removing "bak" which it accepts since its not
presently being used, then when I reboot it tells me again my profile is
corrupt and will create a temp one.
So I'm spinning my wheels here.
I'm thinking my NT.dat folder may be the only corrupt file in there.
How can I get my system to boot back into my old profile again?
TIA

If your profile is corrupt then there is no point in renaming
it the way you do. You simply force Windows to use the
corrupt profile!

Don't rename it but allow Windows to create a new profile
for you.

If the profile is corrupt, you can rename the profile(while logged on as
local admin), then when the user logs on again a new profile will be created
from the image in \default user. You can then copy over the items you need
from the renamed profile. Copy the folder contents not the folders
themselves. When your sure you have all you need, you can delete the renamed
profile(s). Use the import function of your e-mail software. Don't overwrite
ntuser.dat
